Led by robust exports, sales of special steel bars marginally increased in May. Combined sales by 7 major local makers of special steel bars (based on hot-rolled bars only), namely, SeAH Besteel, Changwon Special Steel, Hyundai Steel, Jinyang Ind., Dongil Ind., Dongil Steel and Kwangjin Ind., climbed 1.4 percent to 145,593 tons in May compared with the same month last year, said the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA). According to the KOSA's data, domestic sales of special steel bars swung to an upturn in May from the previous month's slump and exports surged 11 percent to 17,187 tons last month compared with a month ago.
