Ted Rose served from 1987 to 1990 as Commander RESAT, i.e. of the Specialist Advisory Team and the ten Royal Engineers Specialist Teams (Volunteers) then administered by Central Volunteer Headquarters RE - predecessors of units later transformed into the Military Works Force (Volunteers) and in 2005 into the Territorial Army component of 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group. He has contributed twenty articles on various aspects of military geology to the RE Journal between 1978 and 2005, helped by many co-authors. Here he is joined for the first time by Jonathan Clatworthy, Curator of the Lapworth Museum of Geology in the University of Birmingham.
