摘要

Parasites have had profound effectson human evolution. Recentresearch implicates the existenceof a set of psychological adaptations that serve as a firstline of behavioural defence againstcontact with parasites - the'behavioural immune system'. Theordinary operation of the behavioural immune system hasprovocative implications for manydifferent kinds of phenomena thatare of interest to psychologists -including stigmatisation andprejudice, physical attractivenessand mating behaviour, and theorigins of cultural diversity.
