Counting imperiled butterflies is not for whimps. As volunteers from the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) can attest, spring was glorious, but summer's counting work was hot, sweaty and mosquito-plagued. Nonetheless, the rewards can be great. Hank and Mary Anne Poor, who are horticulture volunteers in the Lisa D. Anness Butterfly Garden at Fairchild, have long been interested in butterflies and are members of the Miami Blue Chapter of NABA. When the opportunity came along to help search for South Florida's imperiled butterflies, they immediately signed up.
