Of the many pipe joining methods used in industry today, threading, flanging, and welding are among the most common. Another method-grooving-is time-proven. Grooving is cold forming or machining a groove into the end of a pipe. The key section of the coupling housing engages the groove. The housing, in turn, contains a resilient, pressure-responsive, C-shaped elastomer gasket that provides a triple seal. The coupling housing fully encloses the gasket, reinforcing it and securing it in position. A typical application is shown in Figure 1. Roll grooving is suitable for plumbing, fire protection; mining; shipboard installations; equipment manufacturing; hydraulic lubrication systems; water and waster water treatment plants; oil field operations; power plants; military applications; and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
