When the leaders of the FMA Certified Education Centers met for their annual summit in August, what resulted was a strengthening of the mission to serve the industry. Acknowledging that the economy has had a profound effect on the metal forming and fabricating industry, discussion at the summit focused on new ways to approach problem solving for industry professionals at all levels. Each year the Education Summit is hosted by one of the participating centers. This year the summit host was the Advanced Manufacturing Institute at Kansas State University. AMI was represented by Bradley Kramer, director; Jeff Tucker, associate director; Sandra Kayser, information manager; and Kathy Schaefer, accounting manager. Also participating in the event were Fatima Weathers from CAMP Inc., Dick Hanson from EISC, Kevin Black from Industrial Research & Development Institute (IRDI), Richard Martukanitz from the Laser Processing Consortium of the Applied Research Laboratory of Penn State University, Jay Groendyke of Synergis Technologies Group, Erin Hoffmann of The Hoffmann Group, and Gary Morphy of VARI-FORM Inc., representing the FMA technology councils. The summit was moderated by Gary Schott, CAE, FMA's director of education, membership, and customer service; with assistance from Nancy Olson, director of the Metal Authority; Jill Klug, membership and customer service manager; and Pat Lee, expositions marketing manager.
