Smith-Blair Inc., Texarkana, Ark., a division of U.K.-based Invensys, manufactures pipe products used to join, repair, and restrain industrial metal pipe. The products range in size from (3/4) to 50 in. in diameter, and the company powder-coats the products. A powder thickness of 16 mils is standard. The powder coating application booths use a higher volume of powder than they were originally designed to handle. In addition, the operation involves preheating most parts. Because of the elevated temperatures, the powder is partially cured as it contacts the filters.
