Mark George, president of MG Products Inc., never intended to become a tube fabricator. Frustration with machining tubes for transportation customers just led him in that direction. MG Products' staff of 25 struggled to produce the 70 parts per shift on the company's vertical machining centers. The tubes were often difficult to manipulate, because even as they sat in the workholders, they might occasionally move, blowing any chance to maintain tight tolerances and requiring the need for more grinding. Also, some of the tube parts were long and awkward to work with.
