Southeastern Metals (SEMCO), Jacksonville, Fla., a producer of more than 3,000 galvanized, steel, and aluminum building components, specializes in metal roofing, ventilation, trim pieces, flashings, steel framing, storm panel systems, corner bead, and drywall accessories. As the roofing business grew, SEMCO needed to handle longer material lengths, but the design of SEMCO's facility didn't readily accommodate transporting long items. The company's production and storage facility is hindered by support poles on 25-foot and 50-ft. centers. SEMCO workers needed to weave back and forth among the support columns with materials up to 48 ft. long.
