Hammering out a living on a hot anvil can make for a long day, except perhaps when compared to what Max Weiss was doing then he started in the metalworking business-cutting meat 75 to 90 hours a week during the Great Depression.Weiss went on to found the forging and fabricating business that still bears his name, almost 55 years after he resurrected the family's shuttered blacksmith business and set up shop along Milwaukee's old State Street industrial corridor. To call what Max Weiss came back to in 1946 after serving four years in the U.S. Army a shop might be a bit of a stretch, though.
