The hoof capsule comprises the wall, sole, horn tubules of the terminal laminae (at the wall-sole junction), frog, bars, and distal portion of the heel bulbs. These tissues form a resilient yet somewhat flexible shell that encases and protects the soft tissues and bony structures of the foot. As such, the hoof capsule is the first line of defense for the sensitive tissues beneath.
