On the absence of long-period 9R phase in the Fe-32% Ni invar alloy

An analysis of electron diffraction patterns available in [19, 20] has shown that, contrary to the author's conclusion, no signs indicating the formation of long-period 9R phase in the course of alpha -> gamma transformation in the studied Fe-32Ni alloy during its slow heating are found; however, the common nanocrystalline gamma phase with the fcc structure is formed. Extended plates with a layered structure, which are considered in [19, 20] as a new (3R + 9R) phase in the Fe-32% Ni alloy, are common twinned-midrib areas of each initial alpha crystal, in which twinned gamma-phase nanoplates have been formed during heating.
