Forest certification in the U.S. is at a critical turning point. It's my opinion that the next several months will determine the success or failure of many such programs. More than 10 years ago we were told that forest certification would help with markets and increase value for wood fiber produced from a well managed, sustainable forest--the cornerstone of all forest certification programs. We were also told that the public would be willing to pay a premium price for certified wood and wood products, just knowing that they came from environmentally managed forests.
