More than three decades of quality logging work in northern Idaho was recognized last year when Roy Law-son, owner of Lawson Logging, received the International Council of Forest Engineering (COPE) Operator Award at the group's annual meeting in Coeurd'Alene, Id. The award was given in recognition of Lawson's innovative approach to logging and his commitment to advancing professionalism within and fostering goodwill outside of industry. Working with the forestry department at nearby University of Idaho in Moscow, Id., Lawson initially learned about cut-to-length logging there. He's since become closely involved, doing some guest lecturing at the school and also participating in compaction, production and CTL studies and making his crews available for various thesis research projects.
