On 27 May 2011, RockTenn Co. (headquartered at Norcross, GA) declared that it had completed the acquisition of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. (headquartered in Chicago). The acquisition was accomplished by the payment of SUS 1.8 billion as cash and about SUS 1.7 billion as RockTenn shares, valuing Smurfit-Stone Container's shares as worth SUS 35 each. This represented a 27% premium on the share closing price on 21 January 2011, the Friday before RockTenn's offer was first announced on Sunday 23 January.
