摘要

This paper describes the development of a patent pending non-destructive testing (NDT) method to ascertain the length of soil nails based on the impulse echo sounding technique, which is well established for the testing of piles. This paper describes the modification of the technique for soil nail testing. A pragmatic approach has been adopted throughout the development stage, supported by theories on wave propagation, vibration and signal processing. The history of development is presented in the main text, while the supporting theories are given in an appendix to facilitate reading. This paper summarises the achievements to date, and indicates the directions for future continuing work.
