摘要

Following a meeting of the Honorary Lectures and Papers Committee this past year, I was surprised and overwhelmed upon receiving the invitation to be this year's Charles Edgar Hoyt Lecturer. A truly singular honor for a member of AFS Staff-theonly exception being my close friend for these many years, former AFS Vice President of Technology, Merv Rowley, the Hoyt Lecturer for 1986. With humbleness and immediate recognition of the honor that this would be an auspicious AFS Casting Congress (the101st), I accepted the honor. In the quick moments of decision making and accepting the honor, I also had a flash of Ash Sinnett's directives to AFS Gold Medal recipients... being told "your acceptance speeches are to be no longer than 2-1/2 minutes." But here, I have a golden opportunity without that time constraint.
