A link between the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust and Hoima Hospital in Uganda was established in 2006.The 2009 team of 15 (fig 1) comprising 13 medical professionals (3 obstetricians, 4 anaesthetists, 2 paediatricians, 3 midwives and one practice nurse) from Basingstoke and Reading, plus our 'fixers' Duncan and Helen Sherlock, arrived in Uganda on Independence Day, the 9th of October 2009 and left on the 19th. This was the second visit to Hoima for 8 of the team. After breakfast in Kampala we drove in two minibuses, laden with our bags of donated disposable equipment, for three and a half hours to our hotel for the week, the Crown in Hoima.
