摘要

AN innovative research project is assessing the effectiveness of naturally occurring wasps for fly control in cattle feedlots. The first release of mass-produced parasitic wasps for environmentally friendly control of fly populations has taken place in a Brisbane Valley cattle feedlot. The Queensland feedlot industry is growing quickly and is a major contributor to the state's $3 billion beef industry. Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries principal scientist Dr Rudolf Urech said a DPI&F research project being conducted in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture and with support from Meat and Livestock Australia is using tiny parasitic Spalangia wasps as a biological control of flies.
