摘要

Australian cattle producers are being encouraged to adopt better weaning management strategies to help reduce Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) and boost feedlot productivity. BRD is the major cause of cattle sickness and deaths in feedlots and research by Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) suggests the problem costs the national beef industry 40 million dollar a year. Weaners entering feedlots have the highest risk of developing BRD because they do not have a fully developed immune system. This makes them more susceptible to the combination of stress and infectious agents associated with weaning, transportation and mixing with a variety of stock that can trigger BRD.
