Note: The following is an excerpt froi Design It Right, Fourth Edition, by Thoma Catanzaro, DVM, MHA, FACHE, publishe by AAHA Press.Most housekeeping and maintenance problems in the cage/ run/ward area start at construction, usually with some "low bid" construction decisions that make maintenance difficult. Included in this category are:Pocket doors (hard to clean the back space)Rubber baseboards (hard to clean when not totally flush and sealed at installation)Inappropriate number/placement of mop closets (hard to keep the area clean)Dark zones that conceal dirt/grimeWall surfaces that cannot be scrubbed (rub-off paint)Inadequate storage space (stacks and piles abound)Hard-to-access HVAC filtersInadequate drain systemsNonzoned or low-flow HVAC systemsAnd lots of other pitfalls Please, get help early!
