Developing a driver assistance system that has to detect traffic situations and react to them correctly is quite a challenge, and testing the function algorithms is even more challenging. After all, who wants to be driving along in a vehicle waiting to see how a brand new automated braking maneuver will perform? A virtual test drive is much more relaxed. To make the virtual test drive realistic, road traffic is necessary. Other vehicles need to be driving around to give the driver assistance system plenty to do.
