UK - Cummins Turbocharger Technologies (CTT) of Huddersfield, UK, a subsidiary of US-based Cummins Inc, which provides a range of turbochargers under the Holset name, has invested GBP650,000 in a new test cell to evaluate a Waste Heat Recovery Turbine Expander (WHRTE) prototype for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, off-highway and stationary power applications. Cummins explains that a waste heat turbine expander captures energy that is otherwise lost in the form of heat from a number of sources on board the vehicle (in this case the engine) and turns it into useful mechanical power or electrical power that is capable of reducing vehicle fuel consumption by up to five per cent.
