What started out as an eagerness to have a nose around parliament ended up with me attending one of the most significant government announcements relating to local authorities in recent years. Earlier this year, in my capacity as one of TSI's lead officers without portfolio, I attended the 'Meet the Trading Standards Professionals' surgery event at Westminster and, as a first-time visitor to parliament, I was both impressed and awed by the building itself - I left hoping that the newly elected MPs were similarly in awe of trading standards - perhaps only time will tell?
