Gondeila and Barakawi dates stored without perianths had 24.0 and 9.8 percent respectively insect infestation after 6 months. Fruits stored with perianths intact or replaced by wax showed little infestation late during storage. Dates stored without perianths showed significant reduction in total and reducing sugars, proteins and phenolics. There was a positive correlation between insect infestation and reduction in total and reducing sugars, proteins and phenolics during storage.
