摘要

The objectives of the ISVS remain as they were when the organization was founded. Our aim is to further the position of vascular surgery in the treatment of vascular disease on an international level by setting standards, helping to access training, and fostering an international brotherhood of vascular surgeons who can collectively have enough political influence to sustain the specialty worldwide. To achieve these aims we must make sure that vascular surgery becomes a specialty in every country as only in that way can we gain control of our own destiny. Vascular surgery is a specialty in many countries throughout the world, yet in the United States it remains a poor cousin to other specialties as a section of general surgery. Why is this? Does it mean that other countries are wrong and America is right? As a subspecialty of general surgery, vascular surgery is doomed to failure in the long term.
