Monoclonal antibodies to porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) were tested using ELISA, Western blot analysis and immunoperoxidase test. The ELISA showed the antibodies to be free of cross reactivity with transmissible gastroenteritis virus and Group A rotaviruses. Their specificity was further confirmed by an indirect immunoperoxidase test for the demonstration of PEDV in infected cell lines and intestinal enterocytes of experimentally infected piglets. Possible use of the monoclonal antibodiesin the diagnosis of PEDV infections in swine herds is discussed.
