摘要

In order to assure consistency in the design as well as operational reliability of the process control equipment, it is necessary to completely integrate fieldbus devices into the automation system and to ensure smooth interaction between the DCS engineering system and the software components of the devices. Process control systems must provide the communication route from central engineering workplaces via system and fieldbuses to the individual field devices. To accomplish this task, control system manufacturers and equipment suppliers decided to worked out a joint, vendor-independent solution within the ZVEI association and the PROFIBUS user organization (PNO). The result has been a uniform software interface that is easy to manufacture and to implement and, at the same time, allows plant owners to perform advanced diagnostics and maintenance tasks at low cost and a minimum of capital investment. By combining a software component with a hardware component, similar to driver software for a printer, the "plug & play" principle has been introduced into fieldbus technology. Since Microsoft Windows has established itself as the de facto industrial standard, there are few alternatives in terms of the operating system. The Microsoft ActiveX technology supports the definition of interfaces which not only contain data, but functions as well. These features have successfully been applied for defining the OPC (OLE for Process Control). Interfaces for the engineering components of field devices are defined based on COMI DCOM technology (Distributed Component Object Model), also from Microsoft. If the engineering system uses the same type of interfaces, the ActiveX automatically creates a consistent "look and feel" user surface which is typical for Windows technology.
