An overview of world trade statistics for the international timber trade in the mid-1990s. Of the estimated 3400 million m3 of wood [measured as roundwood equivalent] produced and consumed annually, only about 700 million m3 is trade internationally, and of this 84 million m3 is from tropical forests. The author describes and compares the production and trade of timber in Brazil, Africa and Asia.
