AS WELL AS the four car brands, Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda, the Volkswagen Group in Britain has another, very successful arm. The Light Commercial division is responsible for marketing three distinct series of vehicles, the Caddy, the Transporter/Caravelle and, biggest of the lot, the LT. Although Ford dominates the UK market with its Transits, it does not have much of a say in mainland Europe where, in most countries, Volkswagens reign supreme. The LT has been going strong for 30 years. The original version remained virtually unchanged for 20 years and its successor, selling strongly in Britain at the moment at around 5,400 each year, has been about for the last 10 years. Now its replacement has arrived, with a specification which shows clearly how much development can take place in a decade.
