A drogue measuring system with automatic location by GPS is presented by means of which measurements are possible in large lakes or during unfavourable weather conditions. The system uses a buoy holding the GPS receiver, an adjustable submerged drifter and a land station with PC. The progress of the drogue can be followed online and stored for subsequent processing. Using the data, flow velocities can be calculated and mapped. The system has been used successfully in the Bleiloch reservoir to determine the circulation induced by a bubble curtain.
