Obviously, gap(L) is always positive for compact M. Actually, many detailed lower bounds of gap(L) were already obtained in refs. [1—3], Recently, the same topic was also studied by Chen and Wang in the context of multidimensional diffusion processes. In the present note, the main problem we are concerned with is: when does a spectral gap inequality hold for noncompact M?
