Recently much attention has been paid to the use of semiconducting electroluminescence polymers to fabricate light-emitting diodes (LEDs) due to the significant processing, mechanical advantages, size (large area) advantages and broad spectral range (colour). This note reports that a typical conjugated polymer poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) doped with 1, 1,4, 4-terapheny 1-1.3-butadiene (TPB) functions as a hole transporting material and emitting layer for the polymer EL device, and that a novel multilayered device consisting of single layer of tris(8-quinlinolate)-aluminum (Alq_3) functioning as an electron transport layer exhibits high luminance efficiency and significant durability. Blue emission has been observed on the device at room temperaturewith the DC bias voltage of 4 V. The EL peak centres at 465 run and blue electroluminescence of 1 000 cd/m~2 has also been observed at about 15V. Some large area blue light-emitting display has also been fabricated.
