摘要

The variation in static or fatigue resistance of geometrically similar mechanical components is usually known as the ladder effect. The UNI 10011 and Eurocodice 3 regulations penalise fatigue resistance of joints when the width of the principal plate is greater than 25 mm. The category of the joint is reduced with a coefficient equal to the fourth root of the relationship between the reference width, 25 mm, and that of the joint. Other documents, especially from the British and American schools, introduce other reduction coefficients, as well as the penalisation just mentioned, associated with the kind of material and the kind of stress applied, traction or flexion.
