Bound lipids in lacustrine sediments in Guchenghu Lake, East China

BlOMARKERS used as indicators of the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes are required to be bio-specific in origin and be stable in the early diagenesis process. The input of plenty of land-derived organics, as well as possible changes in theearly diagenesis process, made the lipid composition of inland lacustrine sediments more complicated, and, as a result, the bio-indicating significance of some biomarkers often become obscured. Except for free lipids, bound lipids which were linked to macromolecules by ester bonds, amide bonds or ether bonds, etc., can also be extracted and separated from sediments, and their composition, source and evolutionary feature in the early diagenesis are much different from those of free lipids. Ester-bound and amide-bound lipids in lacustrine sediments from a fresh-water lake, Guchenghu Lake in East China, were analysed, their compositions were compared in the present note, and their possible sources and significance in indicating paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes were discussed.
