Aquaculture of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is a growing industry in Norway; 3000 t of cod were produced by 200 farms in 2004 and production increased to 5000 t in 2005 (Moe et al. 2005). Cod aquaculture is also a developing industry in Scotland, Ireland and Canada. Cod aquaculture in Norway began in the 1980s, but development of the industry was slow because of the difficulties and expense of juvenile production, a problem that, to a large extent, was solved in the late 1990s.
