There is a clear worldwide trend of dramatic declines in fish stocks, combined with increased demands for omega-3 fatty acids and a growing concern for animal welfare and for the marine environment. The challenges that these trends are presenting andthe continuous search for more cost-efficient and sustainable production at sea require innovative methods and technologies along the aquaculture production chain. In many ways, aquaculture is still in its infancy and innovation is needed to further develop the industry.
