摘要

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector in the world, providing food security, livelihood and employment to the millions of people. In this context, interventions of genetics and biotechnological tools are important to the sustain-ability of the sector. Over the past few years, application of molecular genetics in fisheries research has increased noticeably because of the advent of new tools and technologies, Therefore, it has been feasible to address several issues in the various aspects of these tools and technologies. It will not be possible here to cover all of the individual aspects of the tools and their applications, so emphasis has been placed on molecular markers.
