Maintaining high levels of biosecurity practice among employees is a continuous management challenge. Everyone knows that rules and paperwork seldom guarantee that good biosecurity is consistently being applied on a farm. One of the best ways for an aquaculture company to achieve high level of biosecurity practice is for that company to take time to establish a "corporate culture" of biosecurity. A corporate culture encompasses beliefs and ideas about what kinds of goals members of an organization should pursue and ideas about the appropriate kinds or standards of behavior organizational members should use to achieve these goals. A corporate culture, once it is established, subconsciously directs employee attitudes and behaviors and serves as an automatic pilot. A corporate culture of biosecurity provides a strong guarantee that employees will routinely and consistently practice good biosecurity.
