In barotropic atmosphere, slow wave solution is obtained from linear primitive equation in the one dimension case; here the slow wave behaves very similarly to Rossby wave. The existence of the slow wave depends on the meridional structure of the basic flow instead of the J3 effect. The character of the slow wave is almost the same as Rossby wave if the profile of basic flow is the convex function about y.
