摘要

The present study summarizes the results on dynamics of potassium in soil with its long-term use under three different cropping sequences, i.e. pearl millet-wheat, sorghum-wheat andmoong bean-wheat. The study was conducted on a long-term field experiment in progress since1979. Since its inception, the experiment has been given two levels of phosphorus (0 and 60 kgP_2O_5 ha~(-1)) and four levels of potassium (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg K_2O ha~(-1)) with basal doses ofnitrogen and zinc to each crop. Continuous cropping of these systems has resulted into a sharpdecline in available potassium status of the soil. Maximum depletion was observed in pearl millet-wheat and least in moong bean-wheat rotation. After 26 years of cropping, the available K statusof the soil under pearl millet-wheat rotation has come down to 2157 kg ha~(-1) as compared to itsinitial level of 754 kg ha~(-1) in the control plots, where no potassium was added. Even additionsof 90 kg K_2O ha~(-1) in every crop season could not sustain the initial available K status of thesoil.
