In the conventional synthesis of pillared clay(PILC), the first step is to prepare the pillaring agents containing polymer hydroxy cations complex with stable structure. When pillaring agents are mixed with clay suspension, the cations exchange into the interlayers of the clay, prop layers of the clay as the pillars to form regular pore structure of PILC after heat treatment, Because of hydrolysis of Ti(IV), there exist rather contradictory conclusions in literature about the formation and presence of species Ti(IV) in aqueous solution, The authors have made an investigation on the exchange species of synthesis of Ti-PILC. The experimental results show that the species Ti(IV), which have a completely different pore-made effect from other stable polymer cations, are not stable.
