摘要

The fusion crust of meteorites forms during the falling of meteor. When the meteorites enter the earth's atmosphere with higher initial velocity than sound, they are subjected to substantial shock pressure. With the increase of the air density, the shock pressure becomes great enough to create appreciable friction and deceleration begins, accompanied by an increase in the surface temperature. The surface becomes hot enough to emit visible light and to melt. Before the meteorites reach the earth's surface, air resistance slows them down so that the surface temperature get so low that the melted surface cools and coagulates immediately, and the fusion crust forms.
