摘要

Waterborne paints are commonly formulated using associative thickeners to give the desired rheological control.Although it is generally accepted that the viscoelastic properties of latex/associative thickeners are enhanced by the build up of a transient network,there is less agreement on the mechanism of thickening,with some proposing that associative thickeners associate to latex particles through hydrophobic associations or ion-dipole interactions,and others state that the thickening occurs through the network formation in the continuous phase or by the volume restriction in the continuous phase with no interactions between the latex and the associative thickener.
