摘要

The corrosion of iron reinforcements is the main deterioration process of modern concrete structures. The main phenomena that can bring on corrosion are: the chloride salts action (as NaCl and CaCl2) that destroys the passive layer and the reaction of carbon dioxide from the air with calcium hydroxide present in concrete. This latter process is known as carbonation, which causes a decrease of pH in the interstitial pores of the concrete, exposing the surface of the rebars to corrosion. Suitable coatings can retard these processes giving the reinforced concrete an improved surface life and decorative appeal.
