Once high on promise, but Low on investment, the Eastern Mediterranean is now firmly in the sights of international operators. Noble Energy's Leviathan gas discovery off Israel in 2009 showed that prospects existed beyond the well-established reserves of the Nile Delta basin to the southwest. The big guns could no longer afford to ignore the Levant basin and surrounding acreage, especially given the world's seemingly unquenchable appetite tor gas.
