High temperatures inside aviaries are a common problem for producers. This is especially true in many of the developing regions of the world, where some of the highest rates of production growth are being observed. Proper measures must be taken. A hotenvironment leads to poorer performance because the birds use energy when trying to keep cool (for example by panting) and/or because they eat less. Prolonged and/or intense heat stress also causes mortality. Worse, modern birds generate much more heat,because they are much more muscular than a few decades ago. At the IX Symposium South Brazil, Poultry Farming, Matthew Wilson from Cobb-Vantress World Technical Support Team presented his views on how to best deal with hot conditions.
