Traveling can be an addictive preoccupation. At least, it can be for me. And sometimes a destination can become a haven. And for me, one of those havens is Montet. Toni Grieb and Lilly Keller began developing the garden at Montet over 40 years ago, when I was about 4 years old. It took me 32 years to find this place, and since then, I feel compelled to go there as often as I can. The garden began as a clean palette, with few existing plants. Lilly says she knew it was the home she wanted from the first time she saw it, as the large farm house provided a perfect atelier for her creative pursuits, the adjoining land was open for interpretation, and the years ahead brought time for developing a little piece of paradise. Toni started planting evergreenconifers, an early passion which now form the skeletal structure of this fabulous oasis, which lies between Lake Neuchatel and Lake Murten in the Vully region of Switzerland. Many other types of trees, such as Davidia, Taxodium, Salix, Ginkgo and more loom impressively overhead.
