摘要

My professional life has been dedicated to cultivating and selling plants. In 1976 I started, in my hometown of Rijkevorsel, a horticulture and landscaping business which developed into Oprins Plant NV, my core business. After more than a quarter of acentury, the company remains dedicated to the production of bamboo and hundreds of species of ornamental trees and shrubs. My main strength has been to identify niche markets and to capitalize on them through effective production techniques. I have successfully set up similar operations around Europe and other parts of the world, which remain operational and profitable. While pursuing a commercial direction in horticulture and the nursery business, I devote attention and allocate a significant amount of my resources to other sectors such as tropical forestry and plantation agriculture, particularly with the aim of promoting bamboo for environmental protection and enhancement and as a sustainable source of timber.
