We name plants and animals so that we will know that any two of us are talking about the same creature or flower at the same time, Classification of plants and animals, from broadest to most specific, is: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus,Species. Each of these, in complicated cases, can have a "super-" or a "sub-" above or below it. Did you know that there are now several recognized kingdoms for living organisms? When I was in college, biologists recognized only two: plants and animals.Now they talk of fungi as a separate kingdom, and of Protista (which is a "witch's brew" of protozoans, algae, and slime molds) as another. The precise number of kingdoms, from five to eight, depends upon whom you talk to (some have added Archaeobacteria, for example), But at least we know that bamboos are in the plant kingdom.
